360 Photobooth Freetown quotes every booking in new leones (SLE). Because event suppliers, venues and families still sometimes use old figures, it is worth knowing how the two compare before you compare quotes.
What changed
In 2022, Sierra Leone redenominated its currency, removing three zeros. One new leone (SLE) is worth 1,000 old leones (SLL), according to the Bank of Sierra Leone. Old notes were withdrawn in stages, but old figures are still used in conversation, especially for larger amounts.
Why it matters for event quotes
A figure written as “3,000,000” in old leones is 3,000 in new leones. If one supplier quotes in old leones and another in new, the numbers look very different for the same price. Mix-ups happen in both directions:
- a quote that looks very expensive may simply be in old leones;
- a quote that looks very cheap may be in new leones when you assumed old.
How to avoid confusion
- Ask which currency. Make sure every quote says SLE or SLL.
- Get it in writing. A voice note saying “three million” is easy to misunderstand.
- Compare like for like. Convert everything to new leones before comparing suppliers.
- Check the deposit too. The same confusion can affect the deposit figure.
